McDonald reminded him, “I monitor crew nutrition through personal replicator usage… and yours is a cause for concern.”

Mantovanni frowned.

“How so?”

“Well, if this weren’t 2376, I’d guess you have a tapeworm. You’re fit, but… you eat a lot, Captain—enough for three people your size.”

Mantovanni actually smiled.

“That would be Parihn. The woman dines for two.”

Jane gaped. “You mean…?”

For a moment, he didn’t realize what she’d inferred. When it clicked…

“No…! We’re not involved.” He flashed a rueful smile. “I meant…”

She nudged, “You meant…?”

“I’ve never seen such a little person eat so much.”
