“Celestial Choir”

By Joseph Manno

Irriantia, though he had seen wonders his mighty kin had not, could not help but be awed as he approached them. How like unto gods they were—yet gentle, ever gentle.

For a time, he paced the pair, waiting until they might deign to notice him; and when they did, it made thunder seem like a whisper.

“Speak, little one.”

He told them of his friends—and one most of all—lost to the black greater even than the blue.

“Will you make for them a song, that they might never be forgotten?”

And their lament filled all the waters.
