This was the first drabble I ever wrote.
It’s still one of my favorites.
"Hand-to-Hand"
By Joseph Manno
The bruised and angry little boy glared
at his adoptive father.
"Now will you teach me how
to fight?"
The old Vulcan replied, "You must first
learn the ways of peace."
That answer had once served… but not
now.
"That's not logical, Master.
I've tried... talking... walking away... telling an adult. The last works—until he or she leaves.
"Then it starts again."
An arched brow was the response.
Luciano Mantovanni added, "And it's not fair.
It's easy for you to be peaceful... everyone loves you.
"But I'm different."
That struck home.
Perhaps it is time, Sevek
thought.
"Very well."
