“Cicero, I do not intend my next statement to be arrogant, but…”

If he was concealing a smile, he did so with command aplomb.

“Go on.”

“Chess is about equations… algorithms… and I am significantly more intelligent than you are. So why…?” She gestured helplessly at the board.

He arched a brow, and allowed his amusement to break through.

“While you are far more intelligent, Sera…”

He picked up his king and, with it, toppled her queen.

“…don’t ever make the mistake of thinking you’re smarter.”
