The second drabble from the Sons of Liberty Project focuses on a character I would not have anticipated inspiring one. Then again, when you love to hate someone.... It's from William Ewing, with a little help from yours truly.

I liked it, and think you will, too.

"You Can Lead an Ass to Water"

By William Ewing

and Joseph Manno

The pressure gauge indicated 67% atmosphere. Midshipman March Patterson reached to unseal his helmet…

…and Hull Technician Third Class Johansen slapped his hands away.

Stung, he waited angrily for the NCO's signal.

Un-suiting after they'd exited the airlock, Johansen lectured, "Safety first. Shortcuts can kill."

"Sir," March snapped.

"'Scuse me?"

"Protocol requires you address me as 'sir,'" Patterson reiterated.

 Johansen laughed.

"You're no officer yet; and at this rate, you'll never get commissioned… Cadet.

"Believe me… that attitude'll make your fitness report."

Furious, Patterson fell silent, but promised himself, If my first tour is as your divo, Johansen…

…you're out.
